Denied?

Reconsideration Call

Instant credit card approvals are actually the rarest result of a credit card application. In my experiences of applying my husband and I for twenty-something cards so far instant approvals probably only happen about 20% of the time, another 20% they go into further processing and I can call in a few days or wait to be called or emailed and they will have further questions or need some information. The other 60% of the time result in a big fat DENIAL, it is a stab to the gut right in the ego, for sure. It just means I get to practice being SUPER polite with a CHASE rep that isn't really accustomed to kindness and ask if they can please reconsider. I have called for reconsideration 7 times before finally getting an approval. Always wait at last 24 hours between reconsiderations, but if a rep isn't even willing to reconsider just HUCA!

Denial Reasons

When you get a denial CHASE will state the reasons for the denial. So when you call to ask to be  reconsidered you can tell them, "I received a denial because of XYZ, I was hoping to be reconsidered because of ABC." My denials are usually too many recent applications and too much credit. So my negations always start with being loyal to chase and wanting to stay with CHASE cards only instead of going to another bank then they are usually something about "I understand I have a lot of CHASE business applications, I really need this one because I am trying to keep my expenses separate for this business or this vender, and I really love the benefits of this card, the 2x points for office supplies is really nice, or the 1.5x points for all spend since I will be using it at various places." Never ever say you want this card for the sign up bonus, CHASE doesn't like that and they wont reconsider your application just because you are collecting SUBs in fact if they get an idea that you are just collecting SUBs they could shut down your accounts and claw back all your points! Talk abut how you have a lot of expenses and it is helpful for your bookkeeping to keep things separated. Also, if your denial includes too much extended credit you can ask to move available credit from another card. All business cards can work together moving available credit from one chase business card to another business card, or between personal cards, is quick and easy on the phone!

Please feel free to share your denial reasons with me via email, on the Facebook group or in Instagram and I'll walk you thorough how I've tried to recon the same denial reasons.

What's a HUCA?

HUCA is an acronym for Hang Up Call Again! If you get a sense that a rep isn't on your team, or maybe it seems like they are having a bad day just go ahead and say "I'm so sorry that's my kids school on the other line (or insert any other excuse) I'll have to call back" then HUCA and get a brand new, hopefully more beneficial rep on the phone.

Golden Rule

Always, always, always, practice being super kind. I start by repeating their name back to them "Hi Jane, my name is Anna Felix, how are you today?" Be super patient and super polite, always "yes ma'am", "no sir", "thank you ma'am", "thank you sir". Like my mama always says, "you'll get way more flies with sugar." (Is that how the saying goes?) Allot enough time to these calls, usually around 20 or 30 minutes because they put you on hold a lot to look over things then come back, ask a question then put you on hold again. So, use an abundance of patience and kindness, answer the question only, don't ramble or give any extra information. Let me know how it goes!
