Southwest Companion pass

What is a SouthWest Companion Pass

SouthWest Companion Pass, SWCP, is how my family of 6 flies for the price, points or cash, of 4! Everywhere my husband flies he gets to bring a companion for free, and everywhere I fly I get to bring a companion free.

The Southwest Companion Pass is a unique benefit offered by Southwest Airlines. It allows a designated companion to fly with the pass holder for free (excluding taxes and fees) on both paid and award flights for the duration of the pass's validity. To qualify for the Companion Pass, in 2024 a passenger needs to earn 130,000 qualifying points or take 100 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year. Once earned, the pass is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which it was earned, plus the entire following calendar year. It's a highly sought-after perk among frequent Southwest Airlines travelers.

How to get a SWCP?

CHASE has five cobranded Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Cards. Three personal and two business cards.

Business

1.) Southwest Rapid Rewards Performances Business Credit Card

  • AF $199 80,000 points after $5,000/3 months

2.) Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card

  • AF $99 60,000 points after $3,000/3 months

Personal (NOTE: you may only have one Southwest Personal card at a time and my not recieve the bonus if it has been more than 24 months since you have had a Rapid Rewards Personal Card bonus.)

1.) Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card

  • AF $69 30,000 points after $4,000/3 months
  • LIMITED time this card comes with Companion pass until 2/28/25

2.) Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card

  • AF $99 30,000 points after $4,000/3 months
  • LIMITED time this card comes with Companion pass until 2/28/25

3.) Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card

  • AF $149 30,000 points after $4,000/3 months
  • LIMITED time this card comes with Companion pass until 2/28/25

To earn a Southwest Companion pass you just have to get two cards that have SUBS that combines get you at least 130,000 points! That's it!

I chose to get both business cards for my P2 and I, because we wanted to be careful of 4/25 status and I wanted to earn as much Southwest Rapid rewards Points as possible so we can go on as many flights as possible. The higher annual fee cards have more persk, like upgraded boarding positions, earls check in, rebates on Global Entry or PreCheck and points transfer fees. So keep that in mind if you are thinking of choosing the lower fee cards, the higher fee just might pay for itself!

Please use my link for your Southwest Credit Card:

I get some extra points to travel the globe with my family for referring you and you get the same great offer as the public link!

If you have other players in your household then you can refer each other back and forth after the first card, but if you're the only player please keep using my link and please keep allowing me to teach you what I know. Please keep asking me all your questions and sharing your journey with me through email and social media.

Best Practice

The best practice for this, if you can wait, it=s to open one card in the middle of October, get about $500 away from the min spend then lock the card. Open another one 4-6 weeks later in November or December, get about $500 from that minimum spend then lock the card. After the ball drops on New Years and the calander turns to the new yarr then unlock the cards and hit the min spends as quickly as possible. Maybe pay some annual insurance premimums or prepay your hair lady.... The you have a companion pass for as close to 25 months as possible.

However in practice, just get the Companion Pass whenever it will benefit you the most. Ryan and I had our companion passes hit the first week of January, but then we didn't actually use them until Spring Break in April after that so the stress of timing the apps and not accidentally hitting the minimum spend in the old year and then hitting them, x4 as quickly as possible in the new yar was all totally unnecessary.

Be Careful!!

Be really really careful if you are trying to time it just right not to accidentally hit the minimum spend in the old new year and also make sure not to cut it too close to the 3 month time in hitting the minimum spend. Since you're opening the first card in October that doesn't leave a lot of time in January to finish that minimum spend requirement in the 3 month tie span!
