Personal Finances

Budget first!

Before delving into the world of travel credit cards, if you don't already stay within your means, it's crucial to establish impeccable budgeting habits and diligently track spending. Especially if you have a tendency to carry a balance on credit cards or overspend. Overspending and carrying debt, hinders your ability to benefit from credit card travel rewards. By understanding your financial limits and tracking expenses, you can make informed decisions and maximize rewards without falling into debt traps.

Recommendations

I use an app that automatically syncs with each credit card and my bank. I find it to be absolutely crucial. I would not be able to manage my finances, and multiple credit cards, without spending money I don't have without a budget app. I use and recommend the app, EveryDollar. I also recommend the class Financial Peace University if you need help paying off debt and learning to be financially peaceful. I took the class back in 2018 and it taught me everything I needed to know to finally feel like a grown up about my financial health. The app You Need a Budget (YNAB) is also highly recommend although I have never used it. These apps offer user-friendly interfaces and robust features for categorizing expenses, setting budget limits, and tracking progress. Linking all your credit cards to these apps allows for comprehensive tracking of spending across all accounts, ensuring that you remain within budgetary constraints and effectively manage minimum spend requirements.

Turn back now!

Engaging in the points and miles travel hobby requires disciplined financial management. If overspending or carrying debt is a concern, please consider taking the FPU course get financially well and come back in a few years! Remember, financial well-being should always take precedence over rewards accumulation. If overspending is a problem, it's best to close this window and focus on establishing healthier financial habits.
